Implementation and application of THCAPP in Taiyuan Heavy Machinery

1 Project background

with the construction of cad/cae/pdm system of Taizhong group, the efficiency of design work has been greatly improved, and process technology preparation has become the bottleneck of too heavy technology preparation. Especially in recent years, the production scale of the enterprise has been expanding, and the preparation of a large number of process documents has made the process personnel fall into repeated and cumbersome work. Reducing the repeated work of process personnel, improving efficiency, shortening the process preparation cycle, and realizing the sharing of process data have become the urgent problems to be solved in the process technology preparation

in order to promote the pace of enterprise information construction, too heavy technicians have tried to develop CAPP software since the early 1990s, and have successfully developed a CAPP system based on FOXBASE database. However, with the passage of time and the development of computer technology, the original system must be upgraded and improved to meet the requirements of process work, but due to the change of process department, the change of personnel is the "champion" of quality control, The upgrading and maintenance of the original system has become very difficult, and the process department needs to find new ways to solve the problem of process software

relevant departments of Taizhong have made extensive and in-depth research on the development of domestic CAPP software technology. In 2002, they began to contact Tianhe company to explore the possibility of the comprehensive promotion of CAPP system in Taiyuan Heavy Industry. In order to carry out the successful promotion in an all-round way, the process Department of Taizhong carried out a software trial, investigated the typical users of Tianhe company and customers in similar industries, and finally signed a cooperation agreement with Tianhe company in November 2005 to comprehensively promote the THCAPP system in four branches of Taiyuan Heavy Industry crane, mining and coking equipment, rolling forging and reducer

2 Process status before implementing THCAPP

2.1 With the rapid development of the national economy, the investment in fixed assets continues to increase, and the demand for energy, steel and other resources continues to increase. As an energy mining and processing industry, the equipment manufacturing industry once again ushered in the spring of the industry, bringing a new round of development opportunities. Especially in recent years, the number of orders for hoisting equipment, aerospace equipment, rolling mill equipment, etc. has soared, while users have shorter and shorter requirements for the delivery cycle of products, and the tasks of R & D and process technology preparation are relatively tight. The production and process technology preparation of the branches such as cranes, excavators, rolling forging and reducers are very tense, and the process departments are working overtime to prepare the process technology

2.2. Data has information islands

2.2.1 The information island caused by software and network application is too heavy. After years of information exploration and application, the original process design and Research Institute has developed a CAPP system based on DOS system. With the continuous development of computer software and hardware, various computer tools, such as word and FoxPro, have been applied in the process Technology Department, which has played a good role in improving the process efficiency at different stages

but it also brings some obvious problems. The compatibility of electronic documents generated by these different applications and different versions of applications is not good or even incompatible, such as the version problems of FOXBASE and FoxPro, FOXBASE and word format problems, resulting in the problem of information sharing. The data generated by the high version cannot be directly used in the low version system, and if the enterprise needs to share these data, Various computer software tools must be installed on the relevant computer. These seemingly centrally managed files form an information island scattered in different computer systems, and process data cannot be browsed by most systems

2.2.2. Information island caused by working mode

at present, the process technology department of crane, mining coking equipment, rolling forging and reducer branch adopts the same or similar process flow, as shown in the following figure. In the process of process work, the technologist or documenter manually enters many times, and the data source is complex. It is separated into multiple information islands by different operations, so it is impossible to input and use data once and for many times

in the whole process, there are many information islands:

1. The process analysis form filled in by the process personnel cannot be directly used by the documenter, and manual entry is prone to errors

2. The data between the process card and the process analysis table cannot be shared

3. The tooling, working hours and other data in the process card cannot be shared by downstream departments

2.3 Knowledge and data sharing, difficulty in finding historical documents

on the one hand, knowledge and data sharing is the sharing of process knowledge within the Department, the exchange of knowledge between process personnel, the borrowing of process documents of the same or similar products, and the reference role of historical process documents and data for the preparation of existing product processes; Another aspect is the sharing of data between departments, such as the transfer of process data to production workshops, financial departments and purchasing departments

at present, due to the lack of sharing mechanism, the data and knowledge are not organized in the form of products and parts, lack of effective retrieval conditions, and lack of effective links between various process data. It is not possible to obtain the process data related to products, effectively serve the downstream departments and feed back to the upstream departments, which greatly affects the task progress of process technology preparation

process personnel often pay more attention to the improvement of process document preparation efficiency and the convenience of application brought by an application software and tool, but in many cases, they ignore the fact that there is not much time really used for process document preparation and text entry, while drawing retrieval, search, process scheme determination, and retrieval of existing process documents of similar or similar parts, It takes a lot of time to find relevant technical documents and standards

the data transfer between departments from design to process department and from process department to production department is carried out by basically eliminated "3.5-inch floppy disk", and the currently developed and fast network is not applied in daily work, resulting in network islands. When special data changes, it takes more time and energy to share data and ensure data consistency

2.4. Process standards are difficult to unify

due to the inconsistency of process data processing software used by each branch, the inconsistency of process card tools, and the lack of a unified working platform for all computers of different process personnel, the standards of enterprise process documents are not unified, and the standards formulated by the standardization department cannot be strictly implemented

3. THCAPP implementation

3.1 Implementation progress

the CAPP project of Taiyuan Heavy Industry has been officially implemented in four branches of cranes, excavators, rolling forging and reducer since November 25, 2005. It has gone through the stages of project startup, system demand research, scheme formulation and system customization, system installation and training, system trial operation and formal operation. It took about 6 months, and the system was fully put into operation in June 2006

on the basis of nearly two months' research and repeated communication and research with the four branches of Taiyuan Heavy Industry crane, excavator, rolling forging and reducer, Tianhe company, combined with the structure of THCAPP and the process status and characteristics of each branch of Taiyuan Heavy Industry, re planned the process flow with machined parts as the core of each branch, and customized and developed a CAPP system that meets the characteristics of too heavy

during this period, the planning department cooperated with the network center to complete the network deployment of each branch and the network center, complete the hardware procurement and commissioning of the branch, and prepare the hardware for the online operation of the CAPP system

from March 2006, the implementation of the system officially began, with the crane and reducer branch as the first group, and the excavator and rolling forging branch as the second group. The installation and commissioning of the software system of the process Technology Department of each branch and its subordinate branches were completed, and the software application training was carried out for the application personnel of each branch in batches and stages. In the middle of April, 2006, all CAPP systems of the branches entered the trial operation state

with the assistance and guidance of Tianhe company, after more than a month of trial operation, the CAPP system has the conditions for formal operation. In June 2006, the CAPP system of Taiyuan heavy industry entered the formal operation state, and the process work of the four branches of crane, excavator, rolling forging and reducer can be carried out in the CAPP system

3.2. Implementation effect

at present, the process work of the four branches of Taiyuan heavy industry that implement the CAPP system has basically been transferred to the CAPP system. At present, the data backup files on the CAPP server have reached about 1g, more than 250 products have been prepared in the CAPP system, and the number of process cards in each branch has reached more than 40000

The implementation of CAPP system will have a long-term impact on the overall informatization of the process departments of all branches of Taizhong and Taizhong group

3.2.1 The implementation of the unified working platform

has completed the heavy CAPP system. The data server of the system is stored in the network center and uniformly managed by special personnel. The process technology departments of the four branches of crane, excavator, rolling forging and reducer carry out process work on the same platform, adopt a unified working mode, and the process document standards are consistent

3.2.2. Improve the quality of process design

with the application of CAPP system, a large number of typical processes have been formed, a large number of database resources have been connected, many years of process experience has been summarized, continuous optimization has been implemented by using software, and a large number of standard process terms have been applied, which is not only economical and reasonable, but also reduces human errors and greatly improves the quality of process design

3.2.3. Improve the speed of process preparation, standardization of process preparation

after skilled use of CAPP system, the WYSIWYG operation interface, the use of a large number of resource databases, general resources, user resources, user symbols, user words and expressions can assist the process personnel to quickly carry out process preparation, and the speed of process preparation has been improved. The borrowing of process documents greatly reduces the repetitive work of process personnel. The application of CAPP system shortens the preparation cycle of process technology

the standardization and normalization of various process terms, words and symbols greatly improve the readability of process documents. All branches use unified process document templates to standardize process preparation, which is conducive to the implementation of enterprise standards

3.2.4. Computerization of process design and management

process documents are fully managed by computer and stored in the database. Combined with the internal network of the company, the CAPP system realizes the computerization of process and management, and assists the collaborative work between process management departments or personnel

3.2.5. Realizing data sharing and providing data preparation for ERP implementation one of the important purposes of CAPP system is to realize data sharing. After the implementation of CAPP system, the BOM data of design department can be obtained and applied in CAPP system, and the process data of CAPP system can be directly extracted for use by production workshop, purchasing Department, equipment department, financial department, etc., which greatly shortens the process preparation week
